I have a degree in Philosophy (1994), a Masters in Philosophy (1996) and a PhD in Philosophy (2000) from the University of Campinas, where I have a teaching position since 1998 (tenured in 2003). Since 2007, I have had several research stages abroad (Oxford, Stanford, Berkeley), among which I highlight my two sabbatical leaves, first in 2007 (Academic Visitor in Oxford with David Charles) then in 2015 (Visiting Scholar in Stanford with Alan Code in the summer, and Academic Visitor at Oxford in the spring, with Michail Peramatzis).
I have become Associate Professor in 2014. I have been Director of Graduate Studies in Philosophy at the University of Campinas from 2009 to 2013. My field is Ancient Philosophy (especially Plato and Aristotle). My research focuses mainly on the following themes: Aristotle’s theory of scientific explanation, Aristotle’s and Plato’s metaphysics; Aristotle’s ethics”.
In English:
I am (slowly) working on a book manuscript on Aristotle’s theory of scientific explanation (apodeixis) in the Posterior Analytics, and this is also the central theme around which my research interests gravitate.
I am also preparing a commented translation of Aristotle’s Posterior Analytics into Portuguese, which revises the pre-prints published in 2002 and 2004 (https://www.academia.edu/8750907/Segundos_Anal%C3%ADticos_II; https://www.academia.edu/8750863/Segundos_Anal%C3%ADticos_I).
At the same time, I am working on a commented translation of the central books (VII-VIII) of Aristotle’s Metaphysics into Portuguese, which revises the pre-print published in 2005 (https://www.academia.edu/9649681/Metaf%C3%AD3ica_VII_e_VIII_Z_e_H_).
I am also exploring Aristotle’s methodology in several areas (as a natural extension of my main concern with the Posterior Analytics): explanation and definition in both Ethics written by Aristotle, applications of the Posterior Analytics theory in the natural sciences, as well as the contrast between sophistry and the various forms of ‘wisdom’ or ‘expertise’.
