DINÂMICAS DEMOGRÁFICAS NA PROVÍNCIA DE SÃO PAULO, BRASIL. OS CASOS DE CAMPINAS E FRANCA, 1822 - 1888

Resumo

This article is the result of completed research that pointed out possible links between population growth and demographic dynamics (birth, mortality, migration and nuptiality) verified in two municipalities of the Province of São Paulo, especially after the independence of Brazil in 1822. We analyzed the populations of free and enslaved people in Campinas and Franca. The sources used were parish records (baptism, death and marriage) and censuses produced in São Paulo. From the resulting analysis we can highlight the role of migratory flows in the effective settlement and the high rates of natural population growth in the period considered
